Rocky Summit Privacy Policy

Rocky Summit takes your privacy seriously. The app is built around local-first storage — your trips, hike logs, gear lists, and photos live on your device and are never uploaded to our servers.

What We Collect and Why
Trip & Hike Data

All trip plans, hike logs, gear lists, notes, and ratings are stored locally on your device in a private database. This data never leaves your device and is never shared with third parties.

Photos

Photos you attach to trips and hike logs are stored locally on your device. They are never uploaded to any server or shared with third parties.

Apple Health

On iOS, Rocky Summit can read your hiking workouts from Apple Health — including distance, elevation gain, duration, and GPS route data — to help you import them into your hike logs. This data is read-only and stored locally on your device. Data read from Apple Health never leaves your device and is never sent to any external service.

Location

Rocky Summit requests access to your device's location to find nearby trails and show your position on the trail map. This is a premium feature and only requested when you use it. Your location is used in the moment to query trail and weather data from third-party services (see below) and is never stored or used for advertising or marketing.

Usage Analytics

We collect anonymized, non-personal usage events to understand how the app is used and improve it over time. This includes events like screens visited, trips created, hikes logged, and paywall views. We do not collect your name, email, IP address, location coordinates, or any personal health data in anallytics. This data is processed by Amplitude. It is never sold to third parties.

Subscriptions

Subscription purchases are handled by RevenueCat and Apple. When you subscribe, RevenueCat receives your subscription status and purchase information to verify your entitlements. We do not store payment information.

Trail & Weather Data

When you use the Trail Explorer or weather features, your approximate location (coordinates) is sent to third-party services to retrieve nearby trail information and weather forecasts. These services include OpenStreetMap Overpass API, Colorado Parks & Wildlife (COTREX), and Open-Meteo. These requests are functional only — your location is not stored or used for tracking.

Maps are rendered using Mapbox.

Data Storage

All core app data — trips, hike logs, gear, photos, and settings — is stored locally on your device using SQLite. It persists until you delete it manually or uninstall the app. We do not operate cloud storage or backups for your data.

Children's Privacy

Rocky Summit does not knowingly collect any data from children under the age of 13 and complies with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).

California Residents

We do not sell personal information to outside parties. California residents may have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA).

International Users

If you use Rocky Summit outside the United States, please be aware that anonymized analytics data may be stored and processed in the United States or other countries with data protection laws that may differ from your own.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be posted at this URL and take effect immediately upon posting.
